Massage

What should I expect during my massage?

Before your massage, I will ask you certain questions about allergies, health issues, if you are experiencing any discomfort or pain, and what areas you would like me to address. You are welcome to ask me any questions as well.

You can undress to your comfort level - so if you feel better wearing your underwear you can leave them on. If you feel more comfortable keeping your bra on, you may. I can always work around this and undo straps when needed. You will be covered with a sheet the entire time and only the area worked on will be undraped.

I will use a cream based massage oil on you during the massage. Every massage is customized to what you need. If you want me to work on a specific area of your body longer than others, do not hesitate to tell me.

If at any time during the massage you are experiencing pain or the pressure is too much, do not be shy, please tell me. You can talk during the massage if you like or you can be quiet. I do find the less talk there is, the more relaxed my clients become.

What ages are acceptable for a massage?

You are never too old to get a massage, but I do ask that if you want to book your child - they are at least 12 years old.

How often should I get a massage?

I mainly focus on relaxation (swedish) and gentle massage in my practice. I also do hot stone and Lomi Lomi Massage.

You should feel wonderful before you leave and perhaps slightly drowsy. We just call that massage brain. You might feel sore the next day after your massage but don't worry, that will fade. You also may have the urge to run to the bathroom. Massage pushes fluids from your soft tissues and muscles into your circulatory system and flushes it all out into the kidneys. It's best to stay hydrated so I recommend drinking water right after your massage if possible. Take it easy the rest of the day and don't do anything strenuous.

The frequency of your massages depends entirely on how you feel and what issues your body is going through. If you experience pain and just one session helps, you may want to continue doing them weekly. If you just want relaxation, twice a month to monthly may be all that you need.

Facials

What should I expect during my facial?

I will have a brief consult with you before we begin your facial. You will be asked questions about any allergies, your skin, skin care and lifestyle. You have the option of wearing a facial robe or undresssing to your comfort level. All of my facials are customized to your skin's needs, whether you have oily, combination, normal, dry, acneic, or mature skin. Each facial includes a décolleté, and scalp massage.

What is high frequency?

High frequency is a small device that emits electrical currents. It infuses the skin with oxygen and instantly boosts circulation. It promotes healing and kills bacteria making it perfect for acne prone skin. High frequency is also great for fine lines and wrinkles and stimulates cell renewal.

Contraindications for high frequency are: pacemaker, pregnancy, epilepsy, broken capillaries, active cancer, certain autoimmune conditions, diabetes, metal implants close to the face (though certain piercings do just fine - just ask).

What is LED light therapy?

It's recommended that you get a facial once a month.

A facial with hydrodermabrasion combines cleansing, exfoliation, extraction, hydration and serum infusion all in one. The machine uses little tips that are customized to your skin type. These are non invasive and there is no downtime after this facial. Treatments can consist of skin lightening, reduction of wrinkles, improved skin texture elasticity, reduction of the appearance of scars, deep hydration and moisturization, refine pores, help repair sun-damaged skin, and promote softer, smoother skin.

LED light therapy is a light that covers your face while you wear special goggles over your eyes to protect them. The red light helps wound healing and tissue repair and is very beneficial for wrinkles. The blue light is great for acne and sun damage.

Contraindications for LED light therapy are: epilepsy and medicines that cause photo sensitivity.

What is a hydrodermabrasion facial?

What should I expect during a hydrodermabrasion facial?

This facial is customized to your skin's needs. Whether you have acne, mature, dry, oily, combination or normal skin, the hydrodermabrasion is suited for all skin types. During the facial you will receive a double cleanse, exfoliation and any extractions using the hydrodermabrasion machine. Serums will be infused into the skin by machine or oxygen infusion. After serums - a hydrating mask with facial & décolleté massage.

What are some of the serums that can be used?

- Vitamin C: great for brightening and stimulating collagen

- Peptides: for collagen and elastin, great for younger, firmer looking skin

- Salicylic: perfect for use on acneic skin and also breaking unclogging pores

- Hyaluronic: attracts moisture to boost hydration on the surface of the skin

What is oxygen infusion?

A continuous stream of oxygen enriched with serum, is sprayed onto the surface of the skin. These serums provide active ingredients that instantly brighten and moisturize the skin, revealing glowing healthier looking skin.

How long will it take to see results?

You can expect to see results immediately after your facial. You only need to have one facial a month, but if you desire different results, I can do a consult with you to determine what you need.

What about after care?

- Allow your skin to rest after your facial. That includes no makeup.

- Try to avoid any activities that would require your body to sweat, such as being in a sauna, tanning, or working out.

- Avoid touching your skin and avoid any other products the rest of the day.

- The next few days after your facial, limit your exposure to the sun, any exfoliation, or massage.

- Avoid any skincare products with abrasive and peeling properties and choose only hydrating ones.

What is Nanoneedling?

Don't let the name scare you - Nanoneedling doesn't actually use any needles. Instead, thousands of microscopic pyramid-like tips made of silicone penetrate the skin's epidermis delivering serum into the skin. This exfoliates the skin as well as hydrates it with a serum customized for you. Nanoneedling is great for most skin types. It helps fine lines, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, acne, and can also benefit skin texture and scars as well.

Do you sell skincare products?

I sell and use clinical grade skincare products from Circadia and Hawaiian botanicals from Honua Skin Care.

Cupping & Gua Shua

What is cupping?

Cupping is a form of alternative medicine that originated in China. Cupping is done by placing cups on the area to be treated and creating a vacuum by reducing the pressure inside the cup, allowing the underlying tissue to be stretched up into the cup. Cupping can help with inflammation, scar tissue, tension, pain, illness, circulation and so many other benefits.

Does cupping hurt?

Cupping doesn't necessarily hurt, though a certain way a cup is placed can cause some discomfort, but it should never be painful.

What should I expect during cupping?

As with massage, you should rest and take it easy for the next several hours. Drink a lot of water and enjoy the rest of your day. Don't do anything strenuous. You may have marks from the cups on your body. Don't worry, usually they fade within a couple hours, to a couple days - some will even fade right away.

Gua Sha is a form of traditional Chinese medicine. A tool made of jade or stone is placed on the skin to gently scrape it to improve circulation. It has many benefits such as relieving tension, sculpting skin (albeit temporarily), and helping with scar adhesions.

I will apply oil or an oil based massage cream to your skin and apply the cups. Depending on the issues your body has, I may glide the cups gently over your skin before placing it on the skin to sit for a few minutes. I may apply just 4, or I may apply several. Always tell me if you are feeling any discomfort.

What is Gua Sha?

Gua Sha might be uncomfortable when it's used for loosening scar adhesions. Otherwise, it shouldn't hurt. Gua Sha will sometimes leave marks because it is being pressed against the skin, increasing circulation. Facial gua sha is gentler than body gua sha and shouldn't leave marks.

Does Gua Sha hurt? Does it leave marks?

You may be a little sore the next day, especially if scar tissue was worked on. As with massage or cupping, you should take it easy the rest of the day and drink plenty of water.
